Working as a Foreign Manager in Sweden

Cross-cultural awareness – an efficient tool
The world today is international and so is the labor market. It is not a given that our managers and colleagues are from our own culture.
Being international is to understand that there are differences and to be aware of who you are and how you are perceived by your counterparty.
You are seldom understood, as you believe. Knowing how the gap looks provides the possibility to work in a positive and constructive manner to achieve better communications.

Are Swedes ”slow”, unclear and weak at providing feedback? Are foreign managers aggressive, insensitive and uninterested in Swedish work methods?
A meeting of different cultures can often result in irritation and disruption of work. Often, this is due to unnecessary misunderstanding and inadequate intercultural knowledge.

We can provide answers to key questions that impact your performance as a foreign manager in Sweden.

• Culture what is it?
• What are Swedes like and why?
• How are you perceived by Swedes?
• Cross-cultural differences Sweden/ other cultures
- Management style
- Meetings and decision-making
- Need for information
- Group emphasis contra emphasis on the individual
- Feedback
• Approach to career
• Swedish labor laws/attitude
• Language and expression
• Cross cultural awareness – a tool for better communication

A company whose employees have a high level of language expertise has better relationships with customers, suppliers and collaborative partners. Professional, effective relationships strengthen your company’s competitiveness.

One week intensive language training
Better Business international offers a one week intensive language programme this summer. The goal of the English language programme is for the participant to be able to speak and interact in English in a number of vital situations in the workplace with improved confidence, fluency and be able to perform a growing number of duties and responsibilities in English with increased speed and accuracy.

The training will include interactive speaking and comprehension exercises, business vocabulary expansion, grammar practice and writing e-mails and business documents. Speaking and listening will be given a central role during class, through role-play and specific assignments. Intensive conversational and interactive practice based on current events, intercultural aspects and business-related topics with linguistic feedback from the tutor.

The program includes daily classes in the English language in small groups and lessons outside and inside the classroom.
